Rogation Procession This Sunday

Trinity will hold a Rogation Procession this Sunday after the 10:30am service, beating the bounds of the Church. Please come and join us! Sticks will be provided!

Traditionally, Rogations Days were the three days ahead of the Feast of the Ascension, which falls on Thursday of next week, May 18. They originated in fifth century France as a time of fasting and prayer to ward off disasters, but in England became associated with the blessing of fields at the spring planting. The vicar of a parish would “beat the bounds,” whacking the boundaries of the parish with a staff, accompanied by a procession of people reciting psalms and litanies. The propers in the Book of Common Prayer (pp. 207-208, 258-259, 930) have broadened the scope to commerce, industry, and stewardship of creation, in addition to the traditional focus on agriculture.

Prosopon School Icon Workshop

After a four year pandemic-related hiatus, the Prosopon School returns to Trinity Church for a six-day workshop during which first-time students will complete an icon of the Archangel Michael using natural materials and centuries old techniques. Previous artistic experience is helpful but not necessary! You will be given step-by-step instructions and all materials are provided. VBS Compassion Camp is Coming!

Compassion Camp is a program where kids and families explore what it means to have compassion for others, ourselves, and the world. When we bring compassion into our relationships and into the world, we partner with God in bring God's love and justice into the world. Our theme for this summer will be: What Every Living Thing Needs, and our curriculum comes from the wonderful folks at Illustrated Ministries.

We are so excited to bring you this program, and we look forward to seeing you in June! 

Did You Know?

Underneath our beautiful Stockton lawn is a large geothermal field which provides air conditioning for the sanctuary, as well as heating down to a fairly low outdoor temperature.  The system consists of 20 deep wells with 9 heat pumps which circulate fluid through the wells and the heat exchangers in the undercroft.  When it was installed in 2010, it was the first thermal heat pump system in a commercial or institutional building in Princeton. 

Every year, this system provides us with carbon-free energy and saves thousands of dollars in utility expenses.   Our Grounds committee makes sure that no trees are planted over the geothermal field, which avoids any interference with its operation.  Otherwise, it’s easy to forget that it’s there under the lawn!
